CiteAb Antibody Company of the Year

CELL SIGNALLING TECHNOLOGY

For our flagship award we looked to CiteAb data for the highest number of citations per antibody for the period between January 2014 and December 2014. We specifically looked for the highest average rather than the biggest company, suggesting reliability rather that simple absolute size.

As a result, we are proud to announce that the most reliable antibody company of 2014 based on CiteAb data, and therefore the CiteAb Antibody Company of the Year 2014 goes to Cell Signalling Technology!

Cell Signalling Technology was founded by research scientists in 1999. The company focuses on a fairly small product catalogue but puts a lot of effort into validation and manages to produce many citations for a large range of their products.

The company is headquartered in Danvers, Massachusetts and has over 400 employees worldwide. Cell Signalling Technology is active in the field of applied systems biology research, particularly as it relates to cancer. The company produces all of its antibodies in house and goes through a rigorous testing to ensure quality.

Andrew Chalmers, founder of CiteAb, said: "We believe scientists really value reliability other the size of a company’s catalogue so we set out with this award to reward companies who produce a reliable overall antibody portfolio that scientists can trust. Our data shows on this measure that Cell Signalling Technology were clear winners - the company puts a lot of effort into validating their antibody collection, so this is a well-deserved win."

From the data generated through CiteAb we are able to gain a really clear picture of the way antibodies are used around the world. We can tell which countries are investing most in research using antibodies, which companies are seeing growth or decline, which antibodies are most successful and which areas of research are seeing growth.

RUNNER UP: Proteintech

Proteintech offers its customers an extensive range of primary antibodies for all areas of research, validated by ELISA and WB as standard and usually IHC and IF too. The company offers a great range of antibodies for Neurodegeneration, in particular ALS and FTD. The company has recently gained in its share of the research antibody market. Proteintech antibodies are made with whole protein immunogens, which means they have higher binding affinity and work in more applications and species. Clearly researcher’s agree, and we see Proteintech clock up an impressive average number of citations over its portfolio.

RUNNER UP: Millipore

Merck-owned Millipore offers an extensive, focused portfolio of antibodies and assays, with a large average number of citations. The company provides antibodies with breadth and depth in major research areas including neuroscience, epigenetics, cell signaling, cancer and cell structure, and their ranges include the Upstate and Chemicon products with long standing reputations for quality. All antibodies are validated and the company places great pride in the quality of its products.
