The CiteAb Environmental Initiative of the Year Award celebrates the supplier who has stepped up in interesting and innovative ways to help reduce the sectors’ impact on the environment.
We received many fantastic nominations, which made selecting a winner very difficult. In fact, this category was too close to call! Two companies have been awarded the win: Chromotek and 2BScientific - a massive congratulations to both!
Rebecca Sadler said of the nominations: ‘This year we were really impressed by the variety and quality of initiatives entered. The winning companies stood out as particularly impactful, given the scope of the changes made through their initiatives. Congratulations to both!’
Here’s a summary of the winning environmental initiatives:
2BScientific achieved carbon neutral certification in 2020, through the combination of three projects. These projects included tree planting programmes (UK Trees, Kenya Trees) and a project to provide clean drinking water to communities (Uganda Borehole). On top of this, they back a ‘free from single use’ plastic policy which includes the use of packaging such as biodegradable bubble wrap and recyclable jiffy bags.
ChromoTek has been reducing their impact on the environment by transitioning to sustainable packaging. This includes swapping out styrofoam for hemp insulated boxes when shipping refrigerated products. The hemp insulation can be composted after use, and its method of production is of course climate-neutral. They have also changed the plastic boxes previously used to pack products into cardboard made from recycled paper and grass.
